Homer Simpson – A Little Background

Homer Jay Simpson is notably one of the most famous animated characters on television. He stars in the television serious The Simpsons, which of course is no news to you. However, here’s a few things you possibly don’t know. His first appearance, along with the Simpson family, was in The Tracey Ullman Show short “Good Night” back in 1987. The Simpson’s quickly got their own slot on Fox, which debuted in December 1989, after appearing for three seasons on The Tracey Ullman Show.

Cartoonist Matt Groening was the creator of the boorish character and he named him after his father Homer Groening. The real comedy here is that Matt created this typical dysfunctional type family naming it’s characters after members of his own. Have a guess who he substituted his own name for – you guessed it “Bart”, which incidentally is an anagram for the word brat.
